Panthers hold Demons scoreless in second SEC matchup of the season
PLEASANT, MT — When the Mount Pleasant and Washington women's soccer teams meet on the field, one thing is certain. That means it will be settled.
In the past seven meetings between the two teams dating back to 2019, one goal has been the only factor separating the pair.
On Monday, Mount Pleasant shut out the Demons 2-0, ending that winning streak.
It was another back-and-forth affair between the Panthers (2-1) and Demons (1-4), but this time Mount Pleasant's defense shined.
The Panthers held the Demons scoreless for the first time since 2019, as all of Washington's chances were either stopped by Mount Pleasant's backline or made saves by goaltender Eli Heaton.
Heaton saved seven Demon shots in the win. Meanwhile, Mount Pleasant had 14 shots (six on goal) resulting in two goals.
Mount Pleasant opened the scoring in the first half with Saray Sanchez, and Tori Wilson sealed the game with a rebound shot with 1:22 left in the first half.
Washington picked up the pace offensively in the second half, but couldn't find a way to take advantage.
