After a nearly two-decade illustrious journey in mixed martial arts (MMA) and countless unforgettable moments inside the Octagon, UFC veteran Matt Brown has announced that his days as an active fighter are coming to an end. . For 19 years, including 30 appearances in the UFC cage, Brown is hanging up the gloves to pursue new adventures.
“I don't do it anymore. I'm out,” he wrote. “My life will now be dedicated to serving others. Helping others grow in martial arts and building a business that can help my community and the world.”
Brown, who turned 43 in January, announced his decision on social media, marking the end of an era.
Knockout king retires
The 43-year-old veteran known as “The Immortal” left a lasting legacy as the most knockouts in welterweight history with 13 brutal finishes. Brown has become a fan favorite for his aggressive and assertive style, which has not only entertained but inspired many aspiring fighters.
His UFC journey began after participating in 'The Ultimate Fighter 7' where he had two impressive KO wins before losing to Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadra. He quickly established himself as a crowd pleaser. In 2012, Brown began the longest winning streak in the UFC, winning seven straight, culminating in a title bout against former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler in 2014. Although Brown did not win, the bout was named “Fight of the Night.” honor.

A new chapter awaits
Brown had previously considered retiring, but decided to keep fighting after his dramatic KO win over Diego Sanchez in 2017, earning him a “Performance of the Night” bonus. Instead, he rekindled his passion for the sport. His most recent UFC fight took place in May 2023, where he defeated Court McGee with a brutal first-round knockout.
Outside of the cage, Brown has spent his time training and mentoring future talent at his gym in Columbus, Ohio. Among his students is UFC contender Josiah Harrell. Following his retirement, Mr. Brown looks forward to expanding his business endeavors outside of the Octagon, including starting his own podcast and continuing his involvement in various businesses.
Brown promises his fans and followers that his new chapter will be just as fascinating as his time in the cage. He is preparing to launch new content and projects that extend his “immortal” brand, from martial arts instructors to various entrepreneurial projects, and hopes to enrich his community and beyond.
