Women's mixed martial arts legend Cris Cyborg continued her dominance in the boxing ring tonight (Sat., June 15, 2024) at Indigo in the Crypt Fight Night at the O2 Arena in London, England, defeating Aria Wilde by knockout in the second round.
Cyborg, who scored a first-round knockout in boxing back in January, was the heavy betting favorite in Saturday's main event. As a former UFC, Bellator, Strikeforce and Invicta FC women's featherweight champion, she had a huge experience advantage and has proven herself an expert on knockout finishes. Wilde never had a good chance.
After a successful first round, Cyborg pressured Wilde along the ropes in the second round, when she landed a powerful right punch that caught Wilde and sent her to the canvas. Cyborg returned to her corner and calmly waited for the bout to be officially stopped.
Following her win, Cyborg shared footage of the knockout punch on social media and called out women's boxing giant Claressa Shields, who just returned to MMA in February with a split decision victory. Check out Cyborg's post and watch the highlights below.
“At 4-0, she already has more knockouts than Claressa Shields, who has had around 100 boxing fights,” Cyborg wrote.
As Cyborg stated, she is 4-0 in the boxing ring since turning professional in September 2022. The 38-year-old veteran still packs a dangerous punch and could make a serious breakthrough in the women's boxing world if she keeps up this form. She still competes in women's mixed martial arts and most recently defended her Bellator women's featherweight title in October 2023, defeating Cat Zingano by knockout.
