Mexico City: Former UFC champion Brandon Moreno announced on Monday his intention to take an extended break from the world of mixed martial arts (MMA) after two consecutive losses have taken a toll on his mental and physical health.
Revealing that this break does not mean retirement, but a temporary hiatus, Moreno expressed his desire to give his body the rest it needs and prioritize spending time with his family.
The decision came after a series of tough matches, especially a tough four-fight fight with Deiveson Figueiredo, which saw Moreno win back the championship title.
Moreno shared the news on Instagram, acknowledging the demanding nature of competing at the elite level of MMA and stressing that restoring the mind and body is essential.
Despite the recent setbacks, Moreno remains hopeful about his future in the sport, drawing inspiration from his past resilience in overcoming adversity and achieving championship status.
Although a specific return date remains unclear, Moreno hinted that he may explore new training methodologies and work with different teams to improve his skill set.
Mexican-born Brandon Moreno Carrillo has won the UFC Flyweight Championship title twice since his debut in 2021 and currently holds the No. 2 spot in the UFC flyweight division. In addition to his accomplishments in the UFC, Moreno also displayed his talent in Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) matches.
