STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Mississippi State Bulldogs will finally showcase their efforts this Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium. Spring games are always exciting for players and fans because it means football season is just around the corner.
This year, the excitement is even higher as the Bulldogs welcome first-year head coach Jeff Levy. The former University of Oklahoma offensive coordinator is known for his up-tempo, high-flying offense.
This is a crime never seen before in Starkville. Levy understands this excitement and she will likely try to put on a show for all her fans.
The defense has also undergone significant changes as first-year defensive coordinator Coleman Hutzler has implemented his scheme in recent months. But there's little film about Hutzler as a play-caller, so we'll all learn together what MSU's defense will look like going forward.
In modern college football, fans have to be prepared to see a lot of new players, and Mississippi State is no exception. Levy and his staff brought in 30 recruits through the high school ranks and the transfer portal.
Several new players are expected to play important roles in this team's offense and defense. Transfer quarterback Blake Shapen is a player to watch on offense, and transfer linebacker Stone Blanton is a player to watch on defense.
There won't be much to take away from Saturday's game, but it will be great to get back inside David Wade and see Levy's program for the first time.
