The postponed Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight has been rescheduled for November 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Nakisa Vidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, released a statement regarding the new date for the showdown (courtesy of ESPN's Andreas Hale):
“Our team worked diligently with all involved parties to reschedule this landmark fight to a date that would allow both Jake Paul and Mike Tyson to be fully prepared, have equal training time, and host the event at AT&T Stadium in the middle of the Cowboys season. We appreciate the incredible dedication, collaboration and flexibility of our partners at Netflix and AT&T Stadium. Paul vs. Tyson is the most multi-generational sporting event of all time, and we are committed to bringing fans around the world to this unforgettable night of boxing live worldwide on Netflix. We look forward to seeing you on Friday, November 15 for a showdown that will be talked about for generations to come.”
The Nov. 15 game will be played between the Dallas Cowboys' two home games at AT&T Stadium: Nov. 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles and Nov. 18 against the Houston Texans.
Tyson and Paul were originally scheduled to fight on Saturday, July 20, with the bout being promoted by Paul's Most Valuable Promotions.
However, according to his agent, Tyson's ulcer recurred approximately 30 minutes before the flight from Miami to Los Angeles was scheduled to land on Sunday, May 26. On medical advice, the bout has been postponed, and a rescheduled date will be announced on Friday, June 7, according to MVP's announcement on May 31.
The most important news was the positive one regarding Tyson's health. The former heavyweight boxing champion's representative said he was “recovering well” after being treated for a recurrence of an ulcer that was causing nausea and dizziness. Tyson also confirmed on Tuesday, May 28, that he was “100 percent recovered.”
Here's part of Tyson's statement following the news of the postponement:
“My body is in the best shape it has been since the 1990s and I plan to return to a full training schedule soon. Jake Paul, this may have bought me some time, but in the end I will be knocked out and banned from boxing for good. I thank everyone for your patience and can't wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year.”
Paul countered:
“I fully support postponing the event so that Mike Tyson has no excuses on fight day. My fans know I don't want to fight Iron Mike unless I'm at my best, but let me be clear: when he steps in the ring with me, I will be ready to win with a sensational finish. Paul vs. Tyson will be a fight that will go down in history, and I am committed to giving my best in this once-in-a-lifetime matchup.”
Hale's report also included a statement that Tyson “will be able to resume training soon.”
Tyson, 57, was the world heavyweight boxing champion from 1987 to 1990. At the height of his career, he was arguably the best boxer in the world. He began his career with 37 straight wins, 33 of which were by knockout, and finished with 50 straight. Tyson last stepped into the ring in November 2020, fighting former boxing champion Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round exhibition bout to a split decision draw.
The 27-year-old Paul gained popularity on YouTube and social media before enjoying huge success in boxing, with a professional record of 9-1 with 6 knockouts, including wins over former UFC stars Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley (twice) and Ben Askren, with his most recent win coming via first-round TKO (2 minutes, 37 seconds) over professional boxer Ryan Borland in March of last year.
