Mike Perry reveals tense phone call with UFC matchmaker Hunter Campbell
In a recent episode, MMA hourPerry recently revealed that he attempted to return to the UFC, but was stopped by the promotion.
“I called the UFC a few times and I don't think Hunter Campbell will answer my calls anymore because I abused him,” Perry said. “I said to him a while ago, 'Hey, you can come back from this two-minute round before you sign the contract.' [MMA]“But you guys don’t have to waste my time”…I was on my way to the gym to train, my wife was in the car, and I wanted more matches than I got with the guarantee and BKFC contract. …
“It was to make them valuable…and he tried to call me and said there's no way I can beat a top-five player in this division right now. Sign me and pay me like I'm fighting a top 5 guy! Bring me in and see what happens. He didn't want to deal with it, so they just did the other thing. They were looking for a location and they wanted bodybuilders to come for it. As of this writing, the UFC and Campbell have yet to confirm or deny Perry's claims. Perry's last MMA fight was a loss to Daniel Rodriguez in April 2021.
Although Perry is still itching to get back into MMA, BKFC has changed his life in many ways. He is a big reason why BKFC continues to expand to include states like California and Nevada.
If Perry's claims about Campbell and the UFC are true, it would be an interesting look into how the promotion treats some free agents, especially former fighters vying to return to the Octagon.
