Mexican lightweight boxer Miguel Madueño (31-2-0 (28 KOs)) will face unbeaten American boxer Keyshawn Davis (10-0-0 (7 KOs)). The bout will be the first to be broadcast on ESPN from a Top Rank event this Saturday, July 6th at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, which will also feature two world title fights.
The 25-year-old Madueño comes into the bout hoping to beat a technically challenging fighter like Davis, who has the ability to end the bout at any time. Promoted by Top Rank, Davis' most recent win is a TKO victory over former world champion Jose Pedraza.
Meanwhile, Madueño won a SD against Justin Pauld and lost in the 10th round to Steve Claggett. The Canadian lost a bout last week against Teofimo Lopez, where he had little chance of finishing. In 2022, the Mexican lost a hard-fought bout against Jezreel Corrales in Panama.
It's a tough fight and on paper it seems very difficult to get a good result, but experience could work in Madueño's favor. His team believes they can get a result that many fans would have expected, but Helder Medina doesn't think it's reckless.
“We are at a disadvantage on every front. This is boxing and we are not trying to fool anyone. We know that boxing experts consider Davis the favorite and they see little chance of us winning. But Madueño has the experience and power. We are looking to surprise and hope that everything goes well,” said Helder Medina.
“A lot of fighters who come from Mexico to the United States have done the same thing before – they've beaten all the odds to get in the ring and raise their hand at the end of the fight, which is why thousands of boxing fans around the world will never write off Mexican fighters,” Cummings said.
Davis has experience competing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Top Rank is steering him towards a career that could lead to a world title fight, while Miguel Madueño has used his experience and perhaps some hand power to try and pull off a strong showing.
