Michigan State employee Denard Robinson, the former star quarterback for the Wolverines, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving early Monday after a single-vehicle crash in Ann Arbor.
An Ann Arbor police spokesperson confirmed that Robinson, 33, an assistant director of player personnel at Michigan State, was arrested around 3:05 a.m. Monday. The accident occurred about 2.4 miles south of Schembechler Hall, Michigan's football headquarters. Charges against Robinson are pending a toxicology report.
The University of Michigan suspended Robinson indefinitely, according to a statement from head coach Sherone Moore.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and have no further comment at this time,” Moore said in a statement.
Former University of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh hired Robinson in February 2022 after Robinson served as a scouting assistant and quality control with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Robinson was a fifth-round pick of the Jaguars in 2013 and played four seasons with the team. New Wolverines manager Moore retained Robinson in his personnel department.
He started 37 games at the University of Michigan under coaches Rich Rodriguez and Brady Hoke, and was the NCAA record for career rushing yards by a quarterback (4,495) and single-season rushing yards by a quarterback (1,702 in 2010). was established. Robinson is the second member of Michigan's football staff to be arrested for drunk driving in the past six weeks. Defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was arrested on March 16 and resigned five days later.
