The results of an NCAA investigation into the University of Michigan's football program that led to a multi-year probationary period have been made public, according to MLive.com.
According to the NCAA, Michigan was designated a “breach of the duty to cooperate” for “unethical and dishonest conduct” by coach Harbaugh, including having unauthorized contact with freshman football players during the COVID-19 hiatus and allowing staff to participate in on-field activities that violated the rules.
Michigan State self-imposed a three-game suspension on Harbaugh for the start of the 2023 football season after he was subject to a Level II violation and his response to the investigation was later deemed a Level I violation.
The program reportedly received a Notice of Charges from the NCAA in January of last year that included four Level II violations and one Level I violation.
The most serious allegation was that “Harbaugh provided false or misleading information,” while lesser allegations included unauthorized contact with freshmen and utilizing them in an on-field analyst role.
The University of Michigan football team remains under investigation by the NCAA for a separate matter involving an alleged scheme to steal football signals from opponents.
Harbaugh was suspended for the final three regular-season games of the 2023 season by the Big Ten following a second investigation that began last October.
Despite the unwanted attention, Michigan won three straight games against Ohio State, winning their third straight Big Ten Conference championship and their first national championship since 1997.
Harbaugh left Michigan during the offseason to take the head coaching position with the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers.
Sherone Moore, who served a one-game suspension for last fall's regular-season opener as part of a negotiated settlement with the NCAA over an investigation into an improper visit, has been promoted to head football coach at the University of Michigan.
