Former Michigan State football star quarterback and current program staffer Denard Robinson was arrested early Monday morning in Ann Arbor on suspicion of operating intoxication (OWI).
Robinson, 33, was arrested around 3:05 a.m. Monday after being involved in a single-vehicle accident at Eisenhower Parkway and South State, said Chris Page, strategic communications manager for the Ann Arbor Police Department.
The police report is not yet available, but Freedom of the Press has requested the report under the Freedom of Information Act. A UM spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment. All charges are pending toxicology results, Page said.
Robinson is the second employee to be arrested for drunk driving in the past two months. On March 16, former defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was arrested for OWI just after 2 a.m. after leaving the Pretzel Bell in downtown Ann Arbor.
Scruggs was officially hired by head coach Sherone Moore less than a month later, but was immediately suspended and then resigned on March 21.
He set NCAA records for career rushing yards (4,495 yards) and single-season rushing yards (1,702 yards) as a quarterback, and was named an All-American in 2010 during his historic career from 2009 to 2012. Robinson was brought in by the former head of the team. Coach Jim Harbaugh was hired as assistant director of player personnel in 2022 and remained on despite a slew of personnel changes under Moore.
Robinson was drafted in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars and played four years as a running back before joining the front office.
Michigan State is scheduled to hold its annual spring football game on Saturday (FOX, noon).
