Chael Sonnen proposes BMF title fight if Conor McGregor pulls out of UFC 303
UFC 303 is scheduled to take place at T-Mobile Arena on June 29 as the conclusion of International Fight Week in Las Vegas, nearly three years to the day since UFC 264, McGregor's last appearance in the Octagon.
McGregor and his opponent Ultimate Fighter Coach Michael Chandler was unfortunately unable to rally ahead of UFC 303 last year, but the decision to suddenly cancel the press conference in Dublin sent MMA gossip into chaos as fans questioned whether the fight was in jeopardy.
“The Notorious” has already apologized to fans for the cancellation, citing “a series of obstacles beyond our control” for UFC's decision, and while the promotion still seems willing to reschedule the press conference, that seems increasingly unlikely as June 29 approaches.
Following the cancellation of the press conference, McGregor has posted a number of non-comedy related posts on his Instagram, including a photo of him relaxing in a doctor's office, and the former two-weight champion has also recently shared a number of training videos that appear to be from his ongoing camp in preparation for UFC 303.
UFC CEO Dana White retracts comments about accidental power slap during Real Madrid fight
Chandler was reportedly on his way to the airport before being informed that the Dublin press conference had been cancelled, and while he has not publicly commented on his concerns regarding the McGregor fight, he has posted the usual training photos and footage with some somewhat cryptic captions.
One of the most concerning aspects of the furor surrounding UFC 303 has been the silence of the promotion and its CEO, Dana White, on the matter, made worse by ESPN+ temporarily halting its pre-order option for the event.
As of June 5, Ariel Helwani MMA Hour Stating that he is “very positive” that the McGregor-Chandler fight will go ahead as scheduled, Helwani also reiterated that no “drama” – such as doping violations or legal issues – had forced the unexpected cancellation of the press conference.
All fans can do is hope that all is well with both McGregor and Chandler's camps, but be sure to check back with MMA KO for the latest news and important updates regarding UFC 303 and “The Notorious'” return.
