OKLAHOMA CITY – Metro Technology Center on Friday announced a $1.8 million renovation to its aviation campus that officials say will help grow Oklahoma's aerospace and aviation industries.
Renovations at the campus, located near Will Rogers World Airport, included improvements to laboratories and airplane hangars, a new roof and renovated classrooms, restrooms and cafeteria.
The campus includes MetroTech's day and night Aircraft maintenance technician Program for adult students. In 2023, 73 students graduated, with 79% finding employment.
Currently, there are approximately 142 students enrolled. Aircraft MaintenanceStudents will receive training in both the airframe and powerplant, including aircraft engines. high school student You can also enroll in the Aerospace Maintenance Foundation Program.
Campus director Michael Branch said most of the school's graduates go on to jobs at Tinker Air Force Base.
MetroTech President and CEO Aaron Collins said the aviation campus, founded in 1988, helps train workers for Oklahoma's aerospace industry.
“It takes a village to keep the aerospace industry moving forward,” Collins said. “Oklahoma is known for its aviation and space industries and we need to continue to be vocal about that. When people think of quality training and the future of the aerospace industry, we want Metro Tech to be the one they think of.”
The $1.8 million in building renovations were funded through Metro Tech's Campus Master Plan, and the Airport Trust provided funding for the roof replacement. The campus renovations took about a year to complete.
