In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, McGregor addressed Meryl Streep's comments about the contrast between art and martial arts when she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2017 Golden Globes.

“Hollywood is full of outsiders and foreigners,” Streep said in 2017. “And if we get rid of them all, there will be nothing left to watch except soccer and mixed martial arts, which are not art forms.”
McGregor explained that this comment stayed with him for many years, and when he had the opportunity to try his hand at acting, it was the driving force behind him pouring his heart and soul into the role in “Roadhouse.”
