BOSTON — The Boston University men's ice hockey team announced its team award winners for the 2023-24 school year on Thursday.
2024 Hobey Baker Award Winner Macklin Celebrini After having the best season in program history, Celebrini was named the George V. Brown Most Valuable Player. The standout freshman led the Terriers with 32 goals and 32 assists for 64 points and was named a First Team All-American, National Rookie of the Year, Hockey East Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Celebrini, the No. 1 pick in June's NHL Draft, also won the Ed Carpenter Award as the team's top point producer.
Case McCarthyMcCarthy, the 2023-24 captain, was the recipient of the Travis Roy Award. The award is presented to the player who best embodies the Travis Roy character traits: a great person, a great classmate, and a great teammate. McCarthy returned to Boston College for his fifth year and was an outstanding leader, leading the Terriers to their second consecutive Frozen Four appearance. He played in 39 of 40 games last season and totaled nine points (four goals, five assists) as one of the Terriers' most reliable defensemen.
Sam StephensStephens, who returns for his fifth season alongside McCarthy, is the recipient of the Friends/Albert Syed Unsung Hero Award for the second consecutive year. Like in the 2022-23 season, Stephens appeared in all 40 games for the Terriers last season. He scored a career-high 10 goals and added seven assists for 17 points while also serving as the Terriers' top defensive forward.
Promoted to second grade Shane Lachance Lachance was the recipient of the Bennett McInnis Spirit Award, given to the player who best embodies the spirit of Boston University hockey both on and off the ice. Lachance made an immediate impact in his first season with the team, appearing in all 40 games and scoring 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points.
Luke Tucci Tucci received the Iron Terrier Award as the player who best embodied character, strength, dedication and discipline in the weight room and off-ice training. Tucci enjoyed his best season as a senior assistant captain with the Terriers, setting career highs in goals (10), assists (20), points (30) and plus-minus (+17). Tucci missed only one game over his final two seasons at BU.
Promoted to second grade Jack Harvey was named the team's Most Improved Player. Though Harvey had only played in five games by the beginning of February, he made the most of his return to the lineup, totaling 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in the final 16 games. Harvey was named to the NCAA Sioux Falls Regional All-Team after totaling three points (two goals, one assist) in two wins, including one goal and one assist in the regional final against Minnesota.
