Just over a year after being inducted into the Hobart Hall of Fame, two-time national champion and AHCA Coach of the Year Award winner Mark Taylor will be inducted into the New York State Hockey Hall of Fame on July 13 as a member of the Class of 2024. Taylor, a two-time winner of the Edward Jeremiah Award as CCM/AHCA National Coach of the Year, is currently in his 24th year at the helm of Hobart. He led the Statesmen to back-to-back national championships, five straight 20-win seasons and 20 straight championships. His total record is 404 wins, 176 losses, and 55 draws. The Statesman has been selected to the NCAA Tournament nine consecutive times and overall he has appeared 13 times. Taylor has the seventh-most wins among his active DIII coaches.
When Taylor was hired to lead the Statesmen in July 2000, he took over a program that had suffered seven consecutive losing seasons. Taylor has won at least 10 games in 22 of his 23 seasons. He has produced nine 20-win seasons. He has been named ECAC West Coach of the Year five times (2003, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2015, 2016) and NEHC Coach of the Year three times (2022, 2023, 2024).
A tremendous motivator and recruiter, Taylor has coached all 21 of Hobart's All-Americans. Six Statesmen won conference player of the year awards. In the classroom, Taylor has coached countless conference All-Academic selections, AHCA All-America Scholars, and he has coached five collegiate sports communicators and academic All-Americans.
