Ruston — Louisiana Tech head coach Talvin Hester Announced on Wednesday Tyson Batiste He will join the Bulldogs staff as an assistant coach.
Batiste spent the past two seasons at Sacramento State, first as director of basketball operations and then promoted to assistant coach.
“We are excited to have Tyson join our program,” Hester said. “We are excited to work with him and know how much of a hard worker he is. We are excited to see him bring a variety of experiences to our team, from guard development to recruiting and scouting. Our players will enjoy working with him.”
Last season, Baptiste helped the Hornets defeat Idaho and top-seeded Eastern Washington in the Big Sky Tournament, reaching the semifinals for the first time since 2015. In his first year at Sacramento State, the team finished sixth in the league and advanced to the first round of the Big Sky Tournament for the first time since 1996.
“It's an honor to be reunited with Coach Hester,” Batiste said. “The opportunity to lead the storied Louisiana Tech program, be closer to home and work with this talented staff and team was an opportunity I couldn't pass up. I can't wait to get to work to continue to move the Bulldog program forward and be part of the great community of Ruston.”
Prior to joining the Sacramento State staff, Batiste spent the 2021-22 season as a graduate assistant at Texas Tech. During his time with the Red Raiders, he worked with Hester and the LA Tech assistant coaches. Darshawn McClellan Texas Tech continued its winning streak all the way to the NCAA Sweet 16.
Baptiste also served as a graduate assistant at the University of Arkansas during the 2020-21 season, when the Razorbacks reached the Elite Eight.
He played three years at Central Connecticut University (2016-19), where he was two-time team captain, and his final season (2019-20) was as a graduate transfer at The Citadel University, where he also served as team captain and finished 40th in the nation in assists per game (5.3).
A native of Springfield, Missouri, he graduated from Central Connecticut University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in General Business Administration.
