2024 Swimming GB Swimming Championships (Olympic Trials)
Day four of the 2024 Swimming GB Olympic Trials brought heated competition, with two women running below their qualifying times in the back 200m and two men achieving the feat in the 200m IM.
honey oslin Her time of 2:08.37 set a new lifetime best and made her the sixth fastest British two-back woman in history.
katie shanahan She placed second in the 400m IM with a time of 2:08.53, adding to her silver medal in this event in addition to her second place in the 400m IM, which she earned earlier in the competition.
The men's 200m IM then ended the session in style with the multiple Olympic medalists performing well. duncan scott I completed the job in an amazing time of 1:55.91.
The performance was just half a second better than Scott's lifetime best and British national record of 1 minute 55.28 seconds, as he aims for a silver medal at the 2020 Olympics.
tom dean He also performed well within the Aquatics GB qualifying time, winning the silver medal in 1:56.44.
However, the men's 100m fly did not go as planned, but the 25-year-old Joe Litchfield He disrupted the field on his way to the podium.
Loughborough's Lichfield beat it with a lifetime best of 51.71 points. james guy and jacob petersare respectively the No. 1 and No. 2 British performers of all time.
Unfortunately for Litchfield, he did not fall below Swimming GB's mandated QT of 51.56 and his results also failed to clear the World Swimming 'A' cut of 51.67.
As a result, Litchfield qualified for the Paris medley relay, but the men's 100m individual fly was a question mark over who would swim that event at the Olympics.
Peters' qualifying time today was 51.56 seconds, and Guy's 51.43 at the 2023 World Championships, both of which would qualify for the World Aquatics “A” cut and qualify for the Olympics.
Guy still has a chance to compete in the 200m free, both as an individual and as a member of the 4x200m free relay. If he does indeed qualify, Aquatics GB's brain trust may decide it is appropriate to add the 100m fly to his Paris repertoire, leaving Litchfield as a relay only.
Alternatively, the same authority could use its discretion to select Peters to the one-fly squad.
We will have to wait and see how things develop as the remaining matches unfold.
