A source with knowledge of the decision said the two-time All-NBA Defensive Team selection has been “shut out” of the wing rotation.
The selection committee named Dyson Daniels (Atlanta Hawks), Matthew Dellavedova (Melbourne United), Dante Exum (Dallas Mavericks) and Josh Green (Charlotte Hornets) as candidates for the defensive wing role.
“There's going to be a lot of people trying to put a bullet in my head,” Boomers coach Brian Goojian acknowledged after the team was announced.
Tibur helped the Boomers win the bronze medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, playing a key role guarding Slovenia's Luka Doncic in the bronze medal game.
Last season, Thybulle averaged 5.4 points, 34.6 percent 3-point shooting, 2.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.8 blocks for the Blazers. Among wings, Thybulle was first in steals and eighth in blocks.
Thybulle was born in the United States but moved to Australia with his family at a young age and lived in Sydney for seven years before returning to the Pacific Northwest.
