A man allegedly murdered by an MMA leader during a sparring session gone wrong is being remembered as a “gentle giant”.
The body of Bradley Evenette, 32, was discovered by police on Georgina Avenue in Meromba, near Mt Druitt, at around 8.45pm on Friday.
Police allege Mr Evenette arrived at the home of his friend and mentor Bradley Fletcher, 38, hours earlier for a sparring session, where he is believed to have died.
Fletcher is said to have then driven to Georgina Avenue, dumped Ms Evenette's body in bushes before crashing his car and being arrested by police.
He was charged with murder and formally refused bail in Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.
Relatives of Mr. Evenett said the two had been friends for many years and that Mr. Fletcher was protecting the alleged victim because he was new to mixed martial arts.
“He was a kind-hearted giant…we know nothing about this and we don't know how something like that could happen to him,” a relative told The Daily Telegraph.
“…Brad was a kind person.”
Neighbors told the publication that Fletcher had just moved into the house earlier that day and had seen people arriving for a sparring event.
His home on Annan Street is just 700 meters from where Evenet's body was found, where her mother and her two children called police.
Crime scene investigators were at the home Sunday as the investigation continues.
Surveillance camera footage from the road showed a black car leaving the scene.
Shortly afterward, officers were alerted to a nearby crash involving a parked car whose driver had failed to stop.
Police identified the vehicle as the one used to transport the victim to the location where he was found.
