CHARLES COUNTY, Md. — Charles County detectives have made arrests in two sexual abuse cases involving minors.
Stephen James Hardeman was taken into custody Friday on charges of sexually assaulting two victims who were martial arts students.
An investigation revealed that Hardeman was an instructor at the American Martial Arts Gym in Waldorf. The assault dates back to 2013. The complaint was recently brought to a Charles County grand jury, where Mr. Hardeman was indicted on two counts of sexual abuse of a minor, two counts of second-degree rape, and several other related crimes.
Hardeman also taught martial arts at other American Martial Arts gyms in St. Mary's County and Caroline County, Virginia. On Friday, a judge ordered him to be released from the Charles County Detention Center on his own recognizance while he remains under house arrest.
Police are not sure if there are any other victims and are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Singh at 301-609-6471.
