Martial Arts: Incorporate ancient martial arts into school curriculum: Governor's proposal | Chennai News

Chennai: Governor RN Ravi on Saturday said ancient martial arts should be included in the school curriculum. Interacting with traditional martial arts “masters” as part of the “Think to Dare” programme at Raj Bhavan, Governor Ravi said, “Like physical education teachers, martial arts teachers should also be employed in schools to teach martial arts to students. These martial arts integrate body, mind and emotions and are essential for overall personality development and discipline.” He also said, “India is the mother of various martial arts of South East Asia. The young Pallava prince who later became known as Bodhidharma studied at Nalanda and took this wisdom back to China where he founded the Shaolin Temple. Martial arts like Kung Fu, Taekwondo, Karate etc are derived from our traditional martial arts.” Governor Ravi also congratulated the martial arts “masters” from Kerala, Karnataka and other states of the country.
