Mendota Heights, MN, May 2, 2024 – St. Thomas Academy today announced Mark Strobel as its next head hockey coach. He has coached at the junior and collegiate levels for over 10 years and previously played for the New Jersey Devils minor league team, Team USA and in college. He played for the Wisconsin-Madison Badgers and the Hill-Murray Pioneers.

In addition to being the head hockey coach, Mr. Strobel is a regular presence on campus and works with promotions, admissions, and alumni relations to build relationships with past, present, and future cadets. Masu.
Strobel most recently spent five years as the associate head coach of the University of Wisconsin-Madison men's hockey program, helping the team win its first Big Ten regular season title in 21 years during the 2020-21 season. Prior to that, he was an associate at Ohio State University where he served as head coach for two years, helping the Buckeyes advance to the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament each year, and in 2018's Frozen Four. He played for Minnesota Duluth, the USHL's Twin City Vulcans, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and the University of Colorado.
Strobel played four years of college hockey at UW-Madison, serving as team captain as a junior and senior. The Badgers advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of four years, including 1992, when the team played in the Frozen Four and finished as runner-up. In 1995 his team won his WCHA title, and Strobel was named All-WCHA honorable mention, securing an all-tournament berth for his team. That same year, he also won Wisconsin's Fenton Kelsey Jr. Most Outstanding Athletic Award. In 1993, he helped Team USA finish fourth at the IIHF World Junior Championship.
After graduating from college, Strobel signed with the New Jersey Devils and spent two years with the club's minor league affiliate.
Strobel is a member of USA Hockey, Christian Business Men's Connection, American Hockey Coaches Association, NHLCA, and Hockey Ministries International. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in history.
