Mark Coleman doesn't think it's necessary to tie the BMF title to the winner of Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway at UFC 300, but he would be happy to do it if asked.
Gaethje (25-7 MMA, 21-7 UFC) and Holloway (25-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) recently told MMA Junkie that Coleman will hand the BMF belt to the winner of Saturday's featured bout. He said he was in favor of the idea of giving the gift. T-Mobile Arena (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+). This was the idea Holloway first shared that Coleman was a “real-life BMF” after saving his parents from a near-fatal house fire in Ohio last month.
Coleman clarified shortly after Holloway's comments that he and his daughters had been invited to the event in advance, but that neither of them had made such a definitive decision about continuing the tradition of awarding the belt to someone special. I was honored to hear that you shared such a comment.
“No, they were (already) going to bring me and my daughters, and that's when Dana White stepped up right away,” Coleman told MMA Junkie in his first interview since the fire. “But a few days later I met Max Holloway. I'm a huge fan of the sport and had a lot of respect for them all, but I rode the bus with Max and his little son a few times. Sometimes” . I just love that person.
“This BMF belt, we’re getting a lot of hype for this match here because we’re talking about two bad mother freakers, Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway, who are optimizing their BMF. ” Watching them do that just brought tears to my eyes. I just want to thank you. can't believe it. can't believe it. Then Gaethje came out and said the same thing. ”
Coleman, a UFC Hall of Famer, said he has not received any communication from UFC leaders about whether he will be in the cage at the end of the Gaethje vs. Holloway fight. He would be happy to do so, but he's not going to get on a plane to “Sin City” expecting that to happen.
“I don't think I'm going to do that,” Coleman said. “I don't think they would ask me to do that, but I don't expect that of them either. But they're bringing me in. They're treating me very well. I love UFC. I'm an office worker. It's the greatest sport in the world.
“They probably already have plans and they can't mess up their plans. It would be unbelievable. I can't imagine just sitting in a nice cage-side seat with my daughter. I'm excited. If I end up belting them or doing anything else, that's just a bonus. This is the biggest, worst, best card ever put together. and I'm excited about the first qualifier, so I'm really happy to be a part of it.”
