LAS VEGAS – Marcin Tybura was called out by Jairzinho Rozenstric, who had just returned to the victory column.
The veteran heavyweight earned a submission victory over Tai Tuivasa (15-7 MMA, 8-7 UFC) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 239 at UFC Apex on Saturday afternoon. The win was a rebound from a TKO loss to interim champion Tom Aspinall in July 2023. Minutes after the victory, Rozenstryk called Tybura (25-8 MMA, 12-7 UFC) for a fight.
Asked about Rosenstoik's call-up during the UFC Fight Night 239 post-fight press conference, Tybura said, “I feel like I've always been a fighter who wouldn't turn down a fight. So the UFC (if they want).” Ta. “I'm not necessarily the type of person to respond, but if that's what the UFC wants, I'd agree. But I'd prefer someone higher up the ranks.”
Tybura and Rozenstruik have some history. They were scheduled to play in January 2022, but the match was moved to a few months later. However, a few weeks before the match, Tybura withdrew from the match due to injury.
Tybura believes the fight with Rozenstryk will play out very similar to the one-round fight against Tuivasa.
“The fact is that I owe Jairzinho a little bit, because our match was scheduled about a year ago and I had to reschedule it, but due to health I withdrew from the fight because I had the above issues. So maybe that's the fight I have to fight.”
Tybura is ready to fight Rozenstrik, but is eager to face a higher-ranked opponent. He doesn't have a specific name in mind, but just wants someone in front of him.
“I didn't mention any names. I really just wanted to focus on this fight and get back in the win column, so I'm not thinking about anyone right now,” Tibura said. “But anyone who finishes in the top 10 would be great. It's more of a celebration right now, but that's it.”
