Adult and child members of Gracie Borough Maldon and Gracie Borough Chelmsford will take part in 'Grapplethon', a 24-hour non-stop charity sparring challenge.
Gracie Barra is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy founded in 1986 by martial artist Carlos Gracie Jr.
His father, Carlos Gracie Sr., was one of the founders of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
A grapplethon involves at least one sparring pair on the mat at any given time during a 24-hour session.
The academy is raising funds for Farley Hospice, which provides hospice care to people suffering from life-threatening illnesses in Mid Essex.
To prepare for the big day, individuals can also set their own challenges and reserve a time slot to participate in a grapplethon.
Members of Gracie Barra Maldon also took part in the CompNet European Championship 2024.
This competition is exclusive to Gracie Barra Academy and some of the participants come from France.
The Grapplethon will be held at Gracie Borough Chelmsford from noon April 20th to noon April 21st.
The fundraiser has already raised more than £4,000.
Gracie Barra Maldon manager Beth Carroll said: “We are extremely proud of the community we have built here in Maldon and it is thanks to the kindness and support of all our members.”
“We can’t wait to raise as much money as possible for Farley Hospice during the Grapplethon.
“We look forward to introducing the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to more local people.”
