Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Conor McGregor may have stopped using swear words, but the Irish star still loves the good old fashioned tweet-and-delete method.
The latest target of his online rage? UFC 302, featuring lightweight champion Islam Makhachev against longtime challenger Dustin Poirier in a main event bout that was hailed as a great fight by nearly everyone (except for one critic), with Makhachev ultimately defending his title by fifth-round submission.
McGregor, however, didn't seem too impressed: In a since-deleted tweet, he revealed the internal pay-per-view (PPV) figures, writing, “500k PPV buys 302. Not much.”
What's really interesting here is that if McGregor's numbers are accurate (more on that later), UFC 302 was actually a pretty big success. Obviously, McGregor is in a class of his own when it comes to PPV buys, but in this day and age, breaking through half a million buys is impressive and somewhat surprising for anyone other than Jon Jones. The UFC 302 card wasn't particularly loaded with talent like UFC 300 or 299, and instead relied heavily on its main event.
If Poirier and Makhachev sold that well, that's great! But McGregor doesn't get along with Poirier and Makhachev is the trainee of his nemesis and potential opponent. No wonder McGregor isn't looking on the bright side here!
Another problem is that the PPV buying business has always been opaque and has become even more confusing and less accurate since the ESPN deal and subsequent streaming buys. Unless UFC CEO Dana White is on the microphone boasting about sales numbers, the information is hard to access.
At this point, McGregor tweeting and deleting it is better than doing nothing.

Similar to last night's drunk Sergio Pettis post, I love it when MMA fighters have really weird reactions to defeat.
If I were held up at gunpoint, I probably wouldn't remember a single detail of the first Tybura vs. Spivak fight… but I do remember watching it, and I may have even written about it!
Dennis Pulich and Rodtang beat each other up and then hung out together afterwards. It was great!
If stupidity works, then it's not stupid… but I don't think this worked.
You have to kick with good form!
The history behind the worst sound I've heard recently (with all due respect).
Poirier's daughter knows the importance of gratitude!
Slip, Lip, KO Clip
Both fighters landed left hooks, but one was tighter…
Shocking news: Makwan Amirkhani got tired towards the end of the match and the match did not end well.
Three linear, precise and powerful connections keep the lights off.
Random Land
I think this is very cool.
