Last week, the Dallas Mavericks advanced to the NBA Finals after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 124-103 in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals.
All-Star forward Luka Doncic was outstanding, hitting 14 of 22 field goals and 6 of 10 3-pointers to finish with 36 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals in 37 minutes of playing time.
After the game, Doncic said media He was then asked about the Boston Celtics (the team they will face in the NBA Finals).
Reporter: When you think of Boston, what's the first thing that comes to mind?
Doncic: “They're the best team in the NBA. They're having the best record so far. They have great weapons on offense and defense, so we're going to have to work really hard and play great basketball to beat them.”
Doncic and the Mavs finished the regular season with a 50-32 record and are the fifth seed in the Western Conference.
They defeated the Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder in the first two rounds (and then the Timberwolves).
Doncic is arguably a top-five player in the NBA, averaging 28.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 43.8% from the field and 34.3% from three-point range through the first 17 games of the 2024 playoffs.
He is in his sixth season and has appeared in two Western Conference finals in the past three years.
Game 1 against the Celtics will be played in Boston on June 6th.
