DALLAS – Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic's seven-year triple-double streak ended Wednesday when he left the 109-99 win over the Golden State Warriors early due to left hamstring strain. .
Doncic had 21 points, nine rebounds and three assists before checking out with 6:46 remaining. The Mavs announced shortly thereafter that he would not be returning.
Doncic had a heating pad placed on his left hamstring before checking into the game 22 seconds early. He was ejected during a timeout after throwing an alley-oop to center Daniel Gafford, wincing at the awkward landing. He told coach Jason Kidd that he needed to leave the game and headed to the locker room.
“He gave me the signal that his hamstring was tight, so we took him away,” Kidd said.
The Mavs, who have won four straight, head to Oklahoma City for the second game of the series on Thursday night.
Kidd said he doesn't know if Doncic will go to Oklahoma City.
“You'll find a better answer. [Thursday]” Kidd said. “This is a fluid thing. This is a hot topic right now.”
Doncic, who was receiving treatment after his teammates left the arena, did not speak to the media.
During this streak, Doncic set an NBA record for consecutive triple-doubles of at least 35 points (5 points) and 30 points (6 points).
The historic record remains intact for the Mavs. Gafford made 33 consecutive field goal attempts in five games after going 5-of-5 with five dunks in the win over the Warriors. Wilt Chamberlain holds the NBA record for most consecutive field goals made (35).
“I just tell myself not to worry too much,” said Gafford, who had 10 points, six rebounds and a season-high seven blocks in 26 minutes. “I mean, if I can do that, that's good and of course I'm going to celebrate it. But at the end of the day, I just want to go out and win games. I'll worry about the record later. .”
