The Louisville track and field team is sending six representatives to the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.
Thrower Jaden Ulrich is scheduled to compete in the discus and shot put this week.
Ulrich finished second in the discus and fourth in the shot put at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Ulrich is the first woman in Cardinals history to finish in the top five in multiple individual events at the same national championship meet.
The third-year transferred from Indiana University to the University of Louisville this year after throws coach Corey Martin joined Joe Franklin's Louisville coaching staff.
“It felt like I was a freshman again,” Ulrich said. “I had a whole new throwing group to practice with, a whole new school and I was just trying to find my place amongst everybody. It's been a great year so far and I really love it here.”
She broke school records in both events and won the discus and shot put at the ACC Championships, also breaking the discus record.
“It's always exciting to know I can go on a bigger stage and prove what I can do, but I try not to think of it like the Olympic Trials,” Ullrich said, “I just try to focus on it as another tournament, another place I can prove myself, another place I can throw farther.”
The first round of the discus is scheduled for Monday and the first round of the shot put is scheduled for Friday.
Other Cardinals competing in the Olympic qualifiers include men's high jumpers Trey Allen and Bryon Stevens and women's high jumper Soledad Jean.
The Cardinals' two alumni are 2022 NCAA outdoor pole vault national champion Gabriella Leon and school record holder in the decathlon Joe Delgado.
