YouTuber-turned-boxer-turned-WWE superstar Logan Paul tested negative for banned substances after his high-profile fight, but spoke out after being asked about steroid use.
Logan Paul asked the interviewer, “What the hell does that mean?” When asked if he used steroids, he reacted angrily.
Paul, whose brother Jake is scheduled to face former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in July, entered the ring himself. The YouTuber-turned-fighter has a 1-1 record in professional boxing and even faced Floyd Mayweather in a scoreless exhibition match in 2021.
The 29-year-old's former training partner Jean Pascal previously tested positive for performance-enhancing substances. Pascal, who was scheduled to appear on the Paul vs. Mayweather fight card, tested positive for multiple banned substances before the fight.
“I'm shocked and embarrassed. I would never voluntarily ingest an illegal drug,” Pascal said at the time. Meanwhile, Paul has denied taking steroids or any other banned substances.
When asked directly by journalist Graham Bensinger if he had ever used steroids, Paul replied, “What do you mean? No, Graham.” When Bensinger asked about other performance-enhancing drugs, the answer was “no.”
“You can't do that in boxing because you get drug tested,” he added. “I think it's stupid to try to do steroids during that time, but I can understand why wrestlers and actors would do it when they have nothing else to do.
“But I've always prided myself on being as natural as possible and pushing myself. Especially when I get into a routine, like three months into training, I always I get this question. Every single time.” “People accuse me of using steroids. I don't understand. That a person can look like that without using steroids. I think that's difficult for people to understand.”
Before the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight in Texas, Logan was called by Tyson's former sparring partner Joe Egan. The undercard card, scheduled to be held at AT&T Stadium, has not yet been announced.
“Hello, Logan Paul, my name is Joe Egan,” the Irishman said. “I'm a seven-time Irish boxing champion and a sparring partner of the great Mike Tyson. Your brother Jake Paul will be in the fight boxing. He's one of Ireland's most ferocious punchers. I have so much respect for that man who had the courage to box one man in the “era.”
Paul defeated Dillon Danis in 2023, but said afterward, “I think I'm retired from boxing.” He was speaking earlier after a post-match drug test came back negative.
“The results were negative. The hated ones will have to keep trying,” he said. “Like I said, there are no performance-enhancing drugs. Good luck next time, even if you're an asshole.”
