WATERTOWN — The Watertown Wolves have announced their home schedule for the 2024-25 Federal Prospect Hockey League season, with their first game of the season set to be on Oct. 11 against the Binghamton Black Bears at Watertown Municipal Arena.
The Wolves will play 28 home games and 28 away games in the regular season, which runs through April 12. Watertown's final game will be at home against the Hudson Valley Venom, new to the league this season after purchasing a membership from the Elmira River Sharks at the end of last season.
The FPHL added three more teams, including the return of the Danville (Illinois) Dashers (now renamed Dashers Hockey). The other three teams were the Athens (Ga.) Rock Lobsters and the Monroe (Louisiana) Moccasins, the second Louisiana-based team in the league.
The FPHL is entering its 15th season with 14 teams.
The Wolves will compete in the Empire Division with the Black Bears, Dashers, Venom, Danbury Hat Tricks, Motor City Rockers and Port Huron Prowlers.
The Continental Division will feature the Rock Lobsters, Moccasins, Baton Rouge Zydeco, Blue Ridge (Wytheville, Va.) Bobcats, Carolina Thunderbirds, Columbus (Ga.) River Dragons and Mississippi Sea Wolves.
The Wolves finished last season with a 19-39 record after winning the league's Commissioner's Cup three times in 2015, 2018 and 2022. Watertown clinched the league's final playoff spot on the final day of the regular season in April and advanced to a first-round series against Binghamton, winning both games of the best-of-three series.
Watertown also recently announced the signings of returning players Josh Tomaj, Trevor Grasby, Chase DiBali, Mike Mercurio and Jake Kment.
Forward DiBari returned for his third season and recorded 27 points in 43 games. Forward Tomasi recorded 21 points in 48 games and 193 penalty minutes. Forward Mercurio played in 43 games and recorded 13 goals and 36 assists. Defenseman Grasby played in 15 games and recorded three goals and seven assists. Goaltender Kment played in four games at the end of the Wolves' season.
The Wolves also acquired veteran Ludlow Harris Jr., a former Thousand Islands Privateer who also played in the ECHL. Watertown also signed former Wolves forward Kyle Heitzner and rookie Kellan Rosenbaum, a 6-foot-2 forward out of Niagara University.
Other signings include rookie forward Dylan Infantino and defenders Tim Paine and Declan Flanagan, who both return to Wolves.
