PowerPlay Pop “brings players into the competitive world of hockey,” says the game creator who grew up in Orillia and now lives in Oromedonte.
An Oro-Medonte man who grew up in Orillia is looking to marry two people with a passion for success in the business world.
Passionate product developer and avid hockey enthusiast Christopher Rossi created PowerPlay Pop, a “revolutionary tabletop hockey experience” that launched on Kickstarter this week.
PowerPlay Pop promises to captivate hockey fans and tabletop gamers alike with its unique blend of strategic gameplay and the excitement of managing a real professional hockey team, explains Rossi.
PowerPlay Pop immerses players in the world of competitive hockey, challenging them to build the ultimate dream team and dominate the ice. Inspired by the dynamics of real-life professional team management, the game requires players to make strategic decisions regarding player acquisition, payroll management, and building winning strategies.
“It's not all about strategy,” Rossi says. “Players participate in head-to-head pop-his-games, engaging in quick-fire showdowns at nearly every turn.”
Gameplay revolves around skillfully moving aluminum trophy tokens modeled after the Stanley Cup across a board and strategically collecting player cards to assemble a team of All-Stars. Each player card has a unique skill level and salary listed, forcing players to make calculated choices to optimize their team's performance without spending a fortune.
As gamers strengthen their roster, trophy tokens level up with magnetic rings, making it easy to see who's in the lead. Additionally, as your team strengthens, your dice popper, which represents your game score, will also level up, giving you an edge in every pop game.
Once a player reaches 100 points, or a preset subgoal for faster games, the playoffs begin. Players will take part in his best-of-seven tournament where he will compete for the title of PowerPlay Pop champion in intense showdowns reminiscent of real professional hockey playoffs.
“With innovative gameplay mechanics and an immersive experience, PowerPlay Pop promises to be an essential addition to any sports fan's game collection,” Rossi said.
He said making the game was a lot of work, and said he hopes others enjoy it as much as he did.
Rossi has deep roots in the region.
“I have been a Simcoe County resident all my life, from kindergarten at Couchiching Heights Public School in Orillia to high school at Barrie North University,” he explained.
