Lerone Richards He has spent the past few years out of the sights and minds of the world's top super middleweights.
Last year, the former British, Commonwealth, European and IBO super middleweight titleholder ended a frustrating hiatus with some routine wins at light heavyweight. But the handy Richards is now planning to return to the 168-pound weight class.
Fight against Richards (18 wins, 0 losses, 4 KOs) Steed Woodall (18-2-1, 11 KOs) Will fight on Wasserman's show at York Hall on April 12th. The match will be broadcast live on Channel 5.
Saul “Canelo” AlvarezHe continues to dominate the super middleweight scene and will put the undisputed title on the line against his undefeated Mexican compatriot. Jaime Munguia May 4th.
Alvarez can't go on forever and has an exciting group of fighters right behind him waiting for his chance to win world honors.and edgar berlanga, Christian Mbili, Diego Pacheco and david morel Everyone is at their peak, and the super middleweight division may be entering its golden age.
Richards, 31, is keen to get back into the team and believes he is already among the best in the field, especially after making his decision in 2021. Carlos Gongora“People thought I was going to get knocked out,” Richards says of his opponent. But he has certain opponents he is willing to prove it to.
“I like the game against Berlanga,” Richards said. “I think it makes a lot of sense. Pacheco is a little behind right now, but I think it would be a great fight in the future. But Berlanga, I think he and I would be a great fight.”
Richards has not boxed at 168 pounds since his win over Gongora, but his lack of activity has seen him drop out of the top 15 of major governing body rankings.
A win over Woodall next month will give Richards the WBO Intercontinental title, but given his history, smart networking and political maneuvering will likely see him back in the top 10 relatively quickly. But his experience has taught him that just because he beat Woodall and won the ranking belt doesn't mean he'll get a big fight. Richards knows he has to force the issue.
“After I beat Gongora, I was in the top 10 in Ring Magazine and no one wanted to fight me,” he said. “I just want to advance and get a high position in the governing body so that people have no choice but to fight me.”
