LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. — The Lee's Summit North girls soccer team has won four of its past six games and believes the team is improving.
The Bronco women's soccer program has steadily improved over the past five seasons, with a current record of 8-3, with the last four wins coming by shutout.
This year's team has scored six goals in two games, and the defense has held seven opponents to one goal or less.
“Some of the goals they're scoring are pretty exciting,” North's 11th-year head coach Ryan Kelly said.
“Going into June, no matter what happens, has this team grown and gotten better over the season? For me, that's what I'm going to look at. Things are going well. We are doing it now. ”
The team is currently ranked No. 9 in the state, according to the latest MaxPreps girls soccer poll.
The Broncos are doing well, but they know they have to work hard to earn the respect of other players and teams.
“I feel like in the past we've been looked down upon by other schools,” Broncos midfielder Grace Masters said. “Success means we won the conference again. We won last year too. We want to be in first place again this year.”
The girls are chasing their best win record of 22 wins in 2017 and feel they have the potential to produce another special season with the help of the team's nine senior leaders.
“We like to win. I feel like every play we're all working hard and fighting for each other to get to where we want to be,” Broncos outsider said.・Left forward Jackie Siegmeyer said Wednesday.
On Friday, the Broncos, who had won four of their previous five games, suffered a blowout 13-1 loss to Nixa High School. But the team has a chance to redeem itself on Tuesday when it faces a tough Park Hill South team (13-1).
