LeBron James' son Bronny James is declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft, the 19-year-old announced on Instagram Friday.
The college basketball players said in a statement that in addition to participating in the draft, they plan to participate in the NCAA Transfer Portal, an online database for student-athletes who maintain their college eligibility and wish to transfer.
“I've had a year of ups and downs, but it all led to growth for me as a man, as a student, and as an athlete,” he said.
Bronny James, who recently completed his freshman season with the University of Southern California men's basketball team, experienced a significant health scare last summer before the season started.
The Los Angeles Lakers star's eldest son suffered cardiac arrest during a basketball workout with the USC Trojans in July.
In October, LeBron James gave an update on his son's health at a press conference, saying he is “doing very well.”
Bronny James made his USC basketball debut in December. After his first game with his team, he told reporters he was “grateful for everything.”
In a statement Friday, the teen thanked USC for an “amazing” freshman year.
LeBron James, 39, has expressed many times his desire to play in the NBA alongside his eldest son.
In a 2023 ad for headphone brand Beats by Dre, the Lakers star hinted that he would like to play in the league with his youngest son, 16-year-old Bryce James.
The basketball legend became the NBA's oldest active player in October.
