Police today released an update on their investigation into the death of tragic ice hockey star Adam Johnson.
The Nottingham Panthers star, 29, died in a freak accident in October when he collided with rival Matt Petgrave.
The following month, a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the suspect had been remanded on bail by May 14th.
A force spokesperson said: “A man under investigation following the death of ice hockey player Adam Johnson in Sheffield has been remanded on bail.
“Adam, 29, suffered the fatal injury during a match between Sheffield Steelers and Nottingham Panthers on October 28 last year. Sadly, he was later pronounced dead in hospital and a post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was a neck injury. It was confirmed that he died.”
“The man was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter on November 14 last year and subsequently released on bail. He was further remanded on bail until Tuesday, May 14, 2024.”
“Our thoughts remain with Adam's loved ones as the investigation continues.”
A video clip showed Petgrave losing his balance and his legs flying into the air shortly before the scare.
At Sheffield's Utilita Arena, around 8,000 fans watched in horror as Johnson fell to the ice.
He received first aid while being protected by players before being taken to the hospital.
An inquest into his death has earlier revealed how Adam's fiance Ryan Wolfe identified his body, where he died in hospital later that day.
The full inquest has been postponed until January 26, 2024, but the investigation into his death continues.
Sadly, Johnson is said to have gotten engaged to his partner Ryan the summer before his death.
She posted a photo of the ice hockey player on Instagram on Monday morning.
Ryan said, “My sweet, sweet angel. I will miss you forever and love you always.”
