The vibrant Louisiana city of Lafayette will once again host the second annual 2024 U.S. Women's Boxing Championship. The highly anticipated event will take place at the Cajundome Convention Center from August 15-20. USA Boxing's return to Lafayette follows the success of boxing's U.S. Olympic Team Trials and National Championships, held at the same venue in December 2023.
“We are excited to keep the momentum going with another prestigious event coming to Lafayette County this August, the U.S. Women's Boxing Championships,” said Ben Bertero, president and CEO of Lafayette Travel. “Not only will this event attract many newcomers and raise our profile, it will also provide a tremendous economic boost to the local community right before the start of the new school year, with an expected 2,300 room nights and approximately $2 million in economic impact.”
Danielle Perkins, USA Boxing Board of Governors member and athlete representative, expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “We are pleased to be hosting the women's championship for the second year in a row. Last year's tournament was a great success, and we are delighted to be returning to the city that has shown us so much hospitality.”
Registration for the event opens June 10 and closes August 2. The deadline for cancellations is July 24, and late fees will apply for coaches starting August 1. Please note that walk-up registration will not be available for either boxers or coaches.
The 2024 Women's Championship will be USA Boxing's third national tournament of the year. The week-long event is inclusive, welcoming participants of all nationalities, including non-U.S. citizens and members of other international federations. It is open to both beginners and experienced boxers of all ages, from peewee (8-10 years old) to masters (35+), providing a platform for women of all ages and skill levels to compete.
This event marks the second USA Boxing Women's Championship, following the inaugural tournament held in Toledo, Ohio last year. Last year, more than 200 boxers from eight countries participated. USA Boxing is proud to present the tournament in partnership with World Boxing, bringing the competition to an international level.
