Last weekend, the hardware returned with the Kingfisher girls soccer team.
The Lady Jackets defeated the OKC Storm 1-0 on Friday at the Weatherford Eagles Classic to take third place.
“It was a fun weekend,” coach Anissa Edsall said. “We had some good wins so we were confident going into the district game.”
KHS opened the tournament with an 8-1 victory over Cordell on Thursday.
Later that night, host Weatherford suffered a 5-0 loss to the Lady Jackets in the semifinals.
“We found out in the tournament that we had to work on some weaknesses,” Edsall said. “But it also showed us something good to build on for the rest of district play.”
All of Kingfisher's remaining games are district games, and the Lady Jackets are pushing hard for the playoffs.
Among his future opponents is Cordell, who offered little resistance in the opening round of the tournament.
Ariana Rivera scored early, opening things up for her and the rest of the team.
By the end of the game, Rivera had scored a hat trick (three goals) for the Lady Jackets.
Molly Weber and Liliana Garamone each scored two goals, while fellow freshman Maya Haney scored one.
The only goal in Friday's game was Haney's.
A Storm defender sent Hannah Crick's throw-in back in her direction.
Click pushed the pass back in Haney's direction, and the freshman converted it into a goal in the 22nd minute of the game.
Zoe Padilla kept the shutout, making seven saves on the day, and KHS improved to 4-3 on the season.
Edsall said Rivera and Haney always have the speed to stress opposing defenses, but he was happy to see other players score in the weekend.
“It was exciting to see some fresh faces on the stat line, with Molly and Liliana scoring goals,” she said. “I’m proud of their hard work after a tough few weeks.”
This Friday, Kingfisher welcomes Aruba homecoming.
The women will play at 5 p.m., the men at 7 p.m., and a coronation ceremony will be held before the women's contest.
