I want to be clear that this series is not over yet. That being said, I thought the Mavericks were being slighted from the beginning. Would some ball connoisseur named Marty Mash have the Mavericks at 25/1 to win before the season even starts? Yeah right. Kyrie off the court has said some really nasty things in the past, but we're just talking about Ball here, he's a top 2 point guard in the league and he's paired with a top 5 player in the league. Kyrie is also a great teammate to him, so it was all supposed to be fine.
I tried to explain this to Celtics fan Chris Kremer, but he couldn't understand why this would be funny to the general audience and not Celtics fans. If Kyrie Irving left the Celtics thinking he was better than anyone on that team and just got horrible while he was there, and he hoisted the NBA championship trophy at TD Garden, Celtics fans would be overjoyed and the whole world would be laughing. Even if I wasn't banking on the Mavs, it would be funny to watch because no one wants to see Boston win. It would be incredible if they were clearly the best team all year and lost to Kyrie. They are perfectly even with the Celtics, but I'm not going to get into that right now until they actually make an appearance in the NBA Finals.
In my memory, Celtics fans hate Kyrie because he made a lot of empty promises. He clashed with Jaylen Brown a lot in the locker room. He also said he wanted to sign a long-term contract with the Celtics, but secretly made plans with Kevin Durant to go to the Nets. When he was with the Nets, he also stomped on the Celtics logo in the middle of the court after a win against the Celtics. There is real malice here. He also never takes responsibility when the team is losing, but he has changed, and he and Luka are a perfect combo, and Dallas seems to treat him like a superstar. And if you are a Celtics fan, you have a right to completely despise him. What's funny to me is that I texted Doogs and Dana Beers, who are regular Celtics fans, and they both said it would be a disaster. Doogs continued that he was selfish and destroyed the team from the inside. So if I were to guess the future at 25/1 and Kyrie lifts the trophy over the Celtics logo, it would certainly be funny.
