COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The second Saturday in June is shaping up to be a very exciting event at Aggieland. The top-ranked Texas A&M baseball team could host an NCAA Super Regional, and Kyle Field could host its first international soccer game in a “friendly” game against Mexico and Brazil.
On Wednesday morning, Mexican soccer legend Pavel Pardo and Brazilian native Emerson da Rosa were in College Station to promote the upcoming Mexico tour.
Both legends agree that fans attending the Copa America tournament, which starts in two weeks, will see a very aggressive match for a 'friendly'.
“It's always like that when we play against Brazil. It's a difficult challenge, but of course we always try our best and I think it will be a perfect day for the fans,” Pardo said.
“This will be a big test for all of us and we are going into Comerica with great confidence and even more confidence,” da Rosa added.
In addition to College Station, cities on this year's Mexico tour include Arlington, Pasadena, California, Chicago and Denver.
Kyle Field, which holds an attendance record of over 90,000, could set a new attendance record for a Mexico tour.
Newly appointed athletic director Trev Alberts likes to set records. Last fall, the University of Nebraska hosted Volleyball Day in Nebraska, with 92,003 people in attendance, making it the most-attended volleyball game ever.
“Kyle Field is a pretty special place, so if you're going to do something at Kyle Field, it has to be something pretty special. By the way, I like breaking records, so I'm looking forward to breaking that record.” “Can we announce today that we need to find a way? We need to sell as many tickets as possible to break that record, whatever that 90,000 is,” Alberts said.
