Keyshawn Davis says avenging his three amateur losses to 2020 Olympic gold medalist Andy Crews doesn't matter because he's now a pro.
Unfazed by amateur losses
Lightweight challenger Keyshawn (10-0, 7 KOs) has said he was unhappy with his fight against Teofimo Lopez and wants to avenge his loss to Cuba's Andy Cruz (3-0, 1 KO) before considering a shot at the WBO light welterweight title.
Keyshawn feels he doesn't need to fight Cruz because things are different than they were in the pros and fans don't know about his losses. That's true. Casual boxing fans don't know that Cruz schooled Keyshawn three times, but they don't know who he is anyway.
The problem is, hardcore boxing fans know that Keyshawn lost to Cruz three times and they watch his fights, so it seems weak that Keyshawn would prefer to fight a weaker opponent rather than face Cruz again.
It's troubling that Keyshawn feels he should give Teofimo a fight because he wants it, and doesn't feel he has to win it. Where did Keyshawn's attitude come from?
Where does that sense of entitlement come from? Is Keyshawn so spoiled that he doesn't think he needs to win anything? Odd attitude.
Criticism of Teofimo Lopez's choice of opponent
Keyshawn lashed out at Teofimo on social media today. Teofimo will defend his WBO 140-pound title against Steve Clagett (38-7-2, 26 KOs) on June 29th at the James K. Knight Center in Miami Beach, Florida. Because there is. He feels it's a bad choice for Teofimo because the fans don't know who he is.
Keyshawn will next face little-known Miguel Madueno (31-2, 28 KOs) on July 6th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
For fans who don't know, Madueno lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Steve Clagett last year at 2023. If Keyshawn feels Claggett is such a bad choice for Teofimo, why would he fight someone he beat last year by a one-sided decision?
Amateur vs. Pro Debate
“'I'm going to go get another belt at 140.'” At 135, he already has three belts. What would another belt do for me? Theo, what will happen if we fight again? ” Keyshawn Davis said on social media in his rant about wanting Teofimo Lopez to fight him and win.
Let's put it this way: If Vasiliy Lomachenko was told by a champion that to win the title he had to beat the guy who beat him three times in the amateurs, I think he would do it.
Lomachenko is not going to come up with the same argument as Keyshawn as to why he doesn't need to avenge his three losses to get a shot at the title. That's what I mean when I say Keyshawn has a right. Not having to earn something is a terrible attitude for Keyshawn or anyone.
“He doesn't want the fight. Pros and amateurs are different. So why do you keep defending him when Teofimo is saying, 'Keyshawn, come take the win back from Andy?' ? [Cruz]”He said, 'He beat you three times.' It was an amateur fight,” Keyshawn said, hoping to avenge Teofimo's three amateur losses to talented Cuban Andy Cruz. I talked about being there.
Keyshawn's attitude reeks of fear, he's spoiled rotten, and Top Rank could have a problem with this guy unless they continue matching him with soft jobs like they have in the past.
“Is there a difference between professionals and amateurs?” Do you know who Lomachenko beat as an amateur? He's a two-time gold medalist at .396. [wins] And he lost one fight? Do you know the fighter he lost to? [Albert Selimov in 2007] Because I sparred with him? ” Keyshawn said of Lomachenko.
Loma lost twice to Selimov in the amateurs, losing only once, so he did something Keyshawn didn't want to do: never face Andy Cruz again.
“What are you going to keep talking about this amateur shit? Oh, because when it comes to me, that's all you guys can talk about. I'm fine with that. Don't you know that Roma avenged his loss?” [to Selimov twice]. ” I did not know that. “The millions of fans who support Lomahenko don't know that,” Keyshawn said.
