After a school-record eight consecutive bowl game appearances in 2023, the Kentucky football team begins spring practice on Tuesday.
Kentucky finished 7-6 last season, including an upset of then-No. 9 Louisville at Derby City. The Cats' season ended with a 38-35 loss to Clemson in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.
Mark Stoops, the winningest head coach in school history, has led the program with 73 wins in 11 seasons.
UK returns eight starters on offense, 10 on defense and three specialists. Among the returning offensive starters are four offensive linemen (Jaeger Burton, Eli Cox, Marquise Cox, Dylan Ray), two wide receivers (Barrion Brown, Dane Key), and two tight ends. (Jordan Dingle, Josh Katas) included.
These offensive returnees will be under the direction of new offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan, who came to Kentucky after serving as offensive coordinator at his alma mater, Boise State.
The returning starters on defense include four defensive linemen (Octavious Oxendine, Trevon Rybka, Keyshawn Silver, and Deone Walker), three defensive backs (Zion Childress, Maxwell Hairston, and Jordan Lovett); That includes two backers (Derrick Jackson and JJ Weaver). Nickelback's Alex Afari.
Specialists returning in 2024 are punter Wilson Berry, kicker Alex Rayner, and long snapper Walker Himebaugh.
Spring practice will consist of 15 days starting on Tuesday and ending on Thursday, April 18th. The Blue-White Spring Game will be played at Kroger Field on Saturday, April 13th at 1:00 p.m.
Kentucky opens the 2024 regular season at home against Southern Miss on August 31st.
