Now the goalie for Team USA, she sees similarities between her two jobs. Both require analysis, problem solving, and teamwork.
“One of the things I like about being a goalie off the field is that I'm very analytical. So people always say engineering and field hockey, they're completely different. But they're similar I would say that you have to sit down and review the movie, analyze what you've done, figure out the root cause of the problem, and figure out how to solve it. I feel like that whole mindset and really enjoy the analysis, but I also like the aspect of being part of a team.”
But she also finds the connection with her teammates on the field special.
“As a goalkeeper, you can feel lonely sometimes. I like having my team around me. I play my best when I feel connected to the centre-backs. I never feel alone. , I'm doing all the saves. I feel like we're working together and it's like, how can we make sure they get the worst of it so we can stop it together? ” Bing said.
Dream of Paris and croissants
Bing was on the team that secured a spot for his home country, but the U.S. has not named a team to go to Paris. Although her roster selection is pending, she is excited for her family and friends to see her play again.
“What excites me the most is, I think everyone knows, no one can be as good an athlete as they are without a village behind them. My family and friends, many of whom haven't seen me play hockey since high school or college, are there to cheer me on and celebrate the moment. I want them to celebrate that moment as well, because they are 100 percent a part of it and I could never have done it without them. That is my hope,” Bing said.
Since this is Paris, there is one more thing she wants to enjoy.
“I also love croissants, so I hope I can eat delicious croissants in Paris,” she said with a laugh.
