In less than three weeks, two of the NHL's most decorated stars this century will forever be etched in BC hockey history.
Kelly Price and Shea Weber will be inducted into the BC Hockey Hall of Fame in Penticton on July 19.
“For me, it's amazing how quickly a career can start and go,” said Price, a goaltender who played 15 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens and helped Canada win a gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
“It's just an honor to be sitting in my room at home with all my gear and everything and experience this amazing journey from Lake Anahim to now. It's been a really surreal journey.”
Weber, a Sicamous High School product, was Price's teammate in Montreal in 2016 and 2021 and was selected by the Nashville Predators in the second round of the 2003 NHL Draft and won two Olympic gold medals in 2010 and 2014.
The 38-year-old defenceman was in Penticton earlier this year when he heard the news of his upcoming induction into the provincial museum.
“It's a real honour being from BC, a small town called Sicamous,” he said at the time. “I've been fortunate to have played my entire minor and junior hockey career at BC, so getting this call definitely means a lot.”
The pair will be inducted at a ceremony on July 19 at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
Speeches from this year's class, which will also include Vernon referee Steve Kowal and Delta-born executive Scott Bradley of the Fort St. John Flyers 2010, will be one of the featured events.
“Throughout the evening, guests will have the opportunity to interact with some of the greatest hockey players, coaches, umpires and builders of all time and hear their stories and perspectives on the sport,” a representative from the BC Hockey Hall of Fame wrote.
Founded in 1994, this provincial museum features more than 300 exhibits showcasing the history of hockey in British Columbia. It's located in the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton.
