KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Fans, businesses and teams are ready to paint the city teal. KC Current is looking to make history in Saturday's home opener.
Spokesperson Dani Werniak said this is a moment when everyone needs to focus.
“I think the biggest thing fans need to know is how big this moment is,” Werniak said. “Here in KC, we all have the opportunity to savor this moment, take a deep breath, and recognize that what is happening in our city has ripples not only here in our community, but for generations to come. I think we need to get.’ We’re making history. ”
Werniak said it was surreal to stand in a stadium and do something that no city or team has ever done.
“We fought to get where we are,” Werniak said. “Sometimes you have to stick to your guns and say, 'We're going to make this happen, we're going to change the world. Here's proof of that.'
Werniak said none of this would be possible without massive support from fans and surrounding businesses.
“I like to say the explosive scenes that are going to happen here,” Werniak said. “Our relationships with companies are strong and we will continue to build on them.”
David Hensley, co-founder of Bar K, which is located just down the road from CPKC Stadium, said he is excited about the increased foot traffic the stadium will bring.
“We're going to come back to the river because that's kind of where KC started,” Hensley said. “There's going to be a lot of people walking in from the River Market. Of course, then they're going to walk right over Bar K and see the fun that we have to offer.”
Fans like Jared Edison fly in from Detroit for big games and end up anxiously waiting on the edge of their seats.
I like the team, they play hard and have a lot of enthusiasm every time they step on the field, and I respect that,” Edison said. “When I saw this stadium, I honestly got teary-eyed. There are no words to describe it.”
