Reading, Pennsylvania (April 19, 2024) – University of Alvernia graduate student Julia BeavenThe Alvernia Women's Ice Hockey team member has been named the Women's Ice Hockey Senior Scholar-Athlete for the 2023-24 season, Middle Atlantic Conference Executive Director Megan Morrison announced Friday.
The MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete Award is presented to one senior student-athlete from each of the MAC's nine winter sports. The award is one of the MAC's highest honors and is presented to student-athletes who are recognized for outstanding academic and athletic performance.
Beaven is the 19th Alvernia student-athlete to earn MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete honors. She is Alvernia's second female ice hockey student-athlete overall, and her second consecutive year to earn this honor.Beaven joins in Olivia Gilidahas been named the MAC Women's Ice Hockey Senior Scholar-Athlete for the 2022-23 season.
Beaven is currently pursuing a master's degree in business administration and has earned a 4.00 GPA by her third semester. She earned her bachelor's degree in accounting from Alvernia University last year and completed her degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.95.
Beaven is a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree and has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll three times. She is on track to earn her fourth of each honor later this semester.
Beaven has been Alvernia's goalkeeper since joining the Golden Wolves in the 2019-20 season. Beaven received All-MAC honors four times. She earned First Team All-MAC honors in 2022 and 2023, and was a Second Team All-MAC honoree in 2021 and 2024. Beaven was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 and 2023.
Beaven will graduate from the women's ice hockey program with a record that will last for years to come. She has 2,806 saves in over 90 career games, 18 career shutouts, 36 wins, and seven ties. Beaven averaged a .936 save percentage and 2.24 goals against average during his career.
By the end of last season, Beaven topped the leaderboard as the NCAA Division III's active save leader with 2,806 total saves. She is ranked No. 5 in both NCAA Division 1 and Division 3.
Beaven led Alvernia to two MAC championships in 2023 and 2024. Alvernia also appeared in the postseason in four of Beaven's five seasons.
Beaven will be recognized along with his fellow 2023-24 MAC Senior Scholar-Athletes at the annual MAC Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, May 7, at Stevens Institute of Technology.
