Jon Jones may not be planning on retiring after all.
The current UFC heavyweight champion has been hinting at retirement following an expected re-signing with former champion Stipe Miocic later this year. Following UFC 303, specifically featuring Alex Pereira knocking out Jiri Prochazka in the main event, Jones responded to a fan question on Twitter by saying he would consider retiring if things didn't change.
Honestly, it's hard to say right now. A lot will depend on their next performance. There seem to be too many options right now. https://t.co/3skkYSY7Aj

“To be honest with you, it's hard to say right now,” Jones said when asked about retirement. “I [going to] A lot depends on the next performance. There are too many options at the moment.”
Jones, who won his second weight class title with a quick submission win over Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 in March 2023, was scheduled to face Miocic at UFC 295 last November but was forced to withdraw due to injury. Despite Tom Aspinall winning the interim title at that event at Madison Square Garden, Jones remains focused on rebooking the bout with Miocic — even as fan sentiment has waned as the months have passed.
With Pereira quickly becoming a star and potentially becoming the first three-division champion in UFC history, Jones has expressed interest in a champion-versus-champion matchup in the future.
