Ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, 15 former Florida State Seminoles are showcasing their talents to NFL scouts at FSU Pro Day in Tallahassee. Florida State is coming off a 13-1 season that was historically eliminated from the College Football Playoff due to a serious foot injury to then-QB Jordan Travis.
Several months have passed and Travis has made progress in his rehabilitation and had the opportunity to meet with all of his teammates on Tuesday to begin FSU's first spring practice of the 2024 season.
“Every time I look at him, I just smile because he's come a long way. He didn't deserve it, but hey, he's a soldier,” said the former FSU star running back. Trey Benson talked about Travis in his pro day interview. “I actually saw him pitching on the field yesterday and he looked good. You couldn't even tell he was hurt.”
Travis suffered a severe leg injury against North Alabama that cut his season short, and the loss of the star quarterback hit the team hard. Still, as scary as it was, his recovery was remarkable.
“I think Trey said it best,” said former FSU defensive end Jared Verse. “It brings tears to my eyes when I watch it. How hard J. Trav works, how much he's done for this. You know you’re trying.” “He put his heart and soul into this program. If it wasn't for J. Trav, this would have been a very different situation. … Him as a player, as a person, as I said earlier. One of my brothers.”
The former signal-caller continues to be an inspiration on the sideline, and his influence on the ACC title team appears to extend far beyond just on the field.
“Knowing that people can overcome these things and these situations just makes me smile and makes me really happy to be alive,” Vaas continued. “You look at him and you think, that's a strong guy, that's him right there. He means a lot to me.”
Vaas, Benson and 12 other teammates are scheduled to participate in FSU's pro day on March 22nd.
