“James is a tough, two-way forward with great character,” Carvel said. “He plays in line with our identity and will bring great leadership qualities to UMass. He spent the past two seasons in the USHL where he made a big impact on the ice and in the locker room. We look forward to watching James continue to develop and make a big impact on the UMass program.”
Dewar spent the past two seasons with the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL, recording four goals, 15 assists and 19 points in 92 regular season games. The Chicago, Illinois native also recorded three assists in 11 postseason games during his time with Green Bay.
Prior to joining the Gamblers, Dewar played at the under-18, under-14 and under-13 levels for the Chicago Missions. He played for Shattuck St. Mary's in 2019-20 and 2020-21, scoring 25 points in each season.
